Documentary |
Collecting Dreams is a documentary featured on the DVD for Barbie in A Christmas Carol. It shows the creation of the 20th Anniversary Holiday-themed Barbie doll, and is 10:56 long.
Synopsis[]
Archive footage of Barbie inventor Ruth Handler is shown where she says about her daughter Barbara being the inspiration for the Barbie doll.
Sandra and Stephanie Segura, a mother and daughter who are both Barbie Collectors, talk about how they consider Barbie a friend, and how their enjoyment of Barbie helps them to bond. Stephanie says Barbie dolls inspire her, and Sandra says that Barbie collecting is a global phenomenon.
Sharon Zuckerman, a Barbie Collector Designer, says that she had "probably worked on hundreds" of Barbie doll designs. She was a principal designer from 1993 to September 2009. She gives Sandra and Stephanie a VIP tour at the Mattel design centre.
Sandra and Stephanie are introduced to other Barbie designers and are given sneak peeks of 2009 dolls, such as the 50th anniversary Barbie designed by Robert Best.
Zuckerman shows some of the process of designing the 2008 Holiday Barbie, and presents Sandra and Stephanie two of the new Holiday dolls right off the production line. To end the documentary, Zuckerman gives three tips on how to be a Barbie Collector: pick a theme, go shopping, and have fun.
